Ophthalmic Laboratory Technician

Cut, grind, and polish eyeglasses, contact lenses, or other precision optical elements. Assemble and mount lenses into frames or process other optical elements.

Responsibilities:
Ophthalmic laboratory technicians are expected to: mount materials or work pieces onto production equipment, shape glass, weigh finished products, clean work pieces or finished products, align parts or work pieces to ensure proper assembly, select production equipment according to product specifications, assemble eyeglass frames and attach shields, nose pads, and temple pieces, using pliers, screwdrivers, and drills, and construct and repair customized assistive medical or dental devices.
Requirements:
Associates or certificate in ophthalmic science is encouraged but not required. On the job training is provided. BACK
