University Physics Professor

Teaches high level courses at colleges and universities

Responsibilities:
University physics professors teach a variety of courses in their subject area, including optics and photonics. They are responsible for preparing lessons and assignments, grading papers and tests, working with colleagues to develop or modify the curriculum, and advising students on what classes to take. As a professor, you could conduct your own research if wanted, but the main focus would be teaching either undergraduates or grad students.
Requirements:
At least a masters is required but a PhD is preferred. In order to teach optics or photonics classes, you will need a higher degree in an area of optics. BACK
